个人简介:

Ali Esmailizadehreceived his PhD in 2006 from the University of Adelaide in Australiaand he is a Professor at Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman, Iran. He is a member of the Iran Academy of Sciences and has conducted long-term research on the origin, evolution, selection and genetic control of complex traits of domesticated animals. Prof. Esmailizadehcollaborates with researchers both nationally and internationally.He has continuously published research articles in journals such as Nature Communications, Science Advances, Molecular Biology and Evolution, Genome Biology, Communications Biology, Current Biology, Cell Research, Genetic Selection Evolution, and Genomics, etc.

报告摘要:

In this presentation, Prof. Esmailizadeh will explore how urbanization shapes the evolutionary trajectories of wildlife populations. He will discuss the unique ecological challenges cities present compared to natural habitats, such as increased human presence and activity, higher levels of pollution and noise, altered temperature and humidity levels, and reduced availability of natural resources. These factors can exert strong selective pressures on urban wildlife, leading to significant changes in species dynamics, including the rise of non-native species and the decline of native species diversity. He will also highlight how urbanization has facilitated the evolution of commensal species like the house mouse (Mus musculus) and German cockroach (Blatella germanica), while also influencing both nonadaptive and adaptive evolution, resulting in increased genetic drift and differentiation among urban populations. By studying natural selection in urban settings, the presentation aims to provide insights into the evolutionary processes shaping urban ecosystems. This knowledge can inform conservation efforts and help mitigate the negative impacts of urbanization on biodiversity.
